K-12 Teachers' Civics Training Workshop

At CSGI, our commitment to civic learning extends beyond the academy. The university classroom and campus are not isolated spaces, but centers within a broader constellation of civic life. In promoting civic education, a key pillar of CSGI’s mission, it is incumbent upon our institution to provide the training and resources to those who remain at the true center of gravity in shaping America's future guardians of liberty: Colorado's K-12 teachers.

On May 27th, CSGI hosted a K-12 civics training workshop, bringing in teachers from across the state of Colorado. The course, The Declaration of Independence: Its Principles and Legacy Abroad, examined the meaning and enduring significance of the Declaration, with particular attention to Thomas Jefferson’s understanding of the document as the moral and intellectual foundation of American civic life. Participants also explored the Declaration’s influence both within and beyond the United States, tracing its impact on subsequent declarations (E.G. Venezuela, Greece, Liberia, Texas) and on America’s understanding of its role in advancing those principles abroad. In addition, the workshop included a sustained focus on the drafting of the Colorado Constitution to commemorate our state's 150th anniversary.
